I believe that feminism has backfired and produced a generation of pathetic girls/women who think their personal worth comes from flaunting their bodies and performing sexual acts for the attention they get from men. Feeling the Failure of Feminism
Did women get what they bargained for?

With the passage of 19th Amendment, 90 years ago this month, women in the U.S. were given the right to vote. The media has been full of stories of the numerous celebratory events and pundits have been eager to give their analysis of whether or not the goals of the original feminists have been met. United Families International would like to weigh in on the topic and give you our analysis of "The Legacy of Feminism."

The "feminism" that drove the Women's Suffrage movement could be viewed as one of America's greatest success stories. But modern feminism has deviated from the lofty ideals and moral underpinnings of its predecessor. Indeed, the goals of contemporary feminism undermine and contradict those of the early feminists. One commentator has called feminism, "the most socially destructive movement in modern times." We will let you decide if feminism has delivered on its' promise of equality and empowerment for all women.

Hyper-Sexualization of Society

It is widely known that the vast majority of young women today reject the label of "feminist." One of the more interesting articles to surface during this month's feminist media push was one entitled: "Outraged Moms and Trashy Daughters," where a mother laments that her daughter eschews the label of "feminist" while embracing an MTV culture and a cosmetic-surgery-attained standard of beauty. Hugh Hefner, of Playboy Magazine fame, would be proud!

"I'm so deeply pained to see where women are today and how girls--and I mean girls--are being groomed to believe their purpose in life is to be sexual beings that please men," says Nancy Vonk, the mother of a 16-year-old daughter.

The first question that comes to mind is: "What did feminists expect?" Feminism's goal was to remove all sexual barriers and make women equal to men--including being equally promiscuous. When standard notions of sexual propriety are shunned as antiquated and marriage is something women might do after they've already had sex, the path to men's attention--that age-old need that not even feminism could beat out of women--lies in being sexually attractive and sexually competitive.

Age of the Rogue Male

A recent Harris Poll reveals that eight out of ten Americans believe that women today are treated with less chivalry than in the past. "Chivalry has been one of the victims of the fight for women's equality," states P. M. Forni, Johns Hopkins University. "It became the assumption in society that women did not want to be treated in a chivalrous way, because it meant they were singled out, thus enforcing the stereotype that women were weaker..."

Far worse, as feminism broke down all sexual barriers and demanded an unrealistic "equality," the worst part of the male behavior--and the worst males--were rewarded. Males who have no other use for women than to use, violate, and abandon them are not restrained--by women or by society. Marry women? Why? Even many men who adhere to the old standard of male/female interaction seem to misunderstand the meaning of masculinity and are lost in a malaise of ineffectual dating and ineffectual career seeking. They, too, are following the feminist template.

Equality in the Workplace

Somewhere along its path, feminism morphed into something dedicated to the assumption that there are no inherent (i.e. non-plumbing) differences between the sexes. This led to the conclusion that any gender-difference in politics, academia, or the workforce must be due to prejudice and discrimination. You may have heard the statistic that women make just 78 cents for every dollar that is earned by a man doing the same job with the same responsibilities. In 2009, the U.S. Labor Department contracted with CONSAD Research Corporation to put that statistic to the test by reviewing more than 50 existing studies as well as a new economic and statistical analysis of the supposed "wage gap."

"CONSAD found that controlling for career interruption and other factors reduced the pay gap from about 20 percent to about 5 percent. Data limitations prevented it from considering many other factors. For example, the data did not permit an examination of total compensation, which would examine health insurance and other benefits, and instead focused solely on wages paid. The data were also limited with respect to work experience, job tenure, and other factors.

The Labor Department's conclusion was that the gender pay gap was the result of a multitude of factors and that the "raw wage gap should not be used as the basis for [legislative] correction. Indeed, there may be nothing to correct. The differences in raw wages may be almost entirely the result of individual choices being made by both male and female workers." Feminism appears to have not been able to change the fact that women prefer different types of work--being a librarian over a garbage collector, jobs where they have more control of their time so as to be with their children. Of course there are exceptions! But for the most part, women want positions that don't require nightshifts, large amounts of travel, or high amounts of physical labor or risk. In short, women are not always doing the same job as males and employers and the marketplace recognize that difference.

Feminism's push to make women equal to men by insisting that they take their place in the workplace has not been a friend of the family. In spite of media claims to the contrary, the research contains numerous examples of negative impact to children and the breakdown of the marriage relationship that occurs when women work outside of the home, particularly when working more than 20 hours a week.

Disintegration of Marriage and Family

Radical, or what is sometimes referred to as "second wave" feminists, believe that marriage is the playground of patriarchy for the oppression of women. They have concluded that motherhood is a primary obstacle to the empowerment and full equality of women. Both traditional marriage and full-time motherhood had to go and an entire restructuring of society had to occur. You see the results of their effort all around you: a divorce rate that has increased by 80 percent since 1970, 40 million children affected by divorce, more than 50 million women living alone, spiraling rates of STDs, and 1.3 million abortions a year in the U.S. alone.

There is a feminist mantra of "I can do it myself!" This attitude also includes the bearing and rearing of children and the jettisoning of the normative understanding of family. Husbands and fathers seem to be superfluous to many women, particularly those who choose to bear children out of wedlock. Yet females have not lost the need for a companion, a father, or a breadwinner.

As men who would fulfill those roles no longer take their place, these women increasingly turn to government for support. They are the greatest supporters of government subsidies and are angered when the taxpayer isn't eager to give enough support to daycare, government health care, even school lunches. In short, they choose to have the government become their husband. What radical feminists seem not to realize is that by exploding the family, they are destroying the very institution that has protected and provided for women over most of human history.

Life/abortion

One of the most tragic results of second-wave feminism is the notion that the only way to achieve full equality is to be able to have "total control of their body." They have been successful in convincing women that the only reason that they are not now "oppressed chattel is because they can legally kill their unborn children."

Some feminists have gone so far as to say that you are not a woman unless you support abortion rights--consider the feminist response to 2008 Vice-Pres. candidate Sarah Palin. "You have to lift their skirts to find out if they are women. You sure can't find out by how they vote!" opined Democrat Representative Janis Sontany. Translated: If females don't support abortion and other feminist objectives they surely are not women.

United Families International's efforts at the U.N. are largely dealing with radical feminists and their dangerous and unhealthy focus on empowerment of women. They do it to the exclusion of what might be necessary for the health and sustainment of other segments of society--namely men and boys. Their intense and relentless efforts to legalize abortion around the world have resulted in 42 million abortions per year.

Conclusion

It is important to acknowledge that there are real and substantial inequalities and gross mistreatment of women in various parts of the world; those need to be addressed as quickly and effectively as possible. But second-wave feminism has lost its way. One commentator has suggested that feminism is losing favor in the public eye because it focuses on "problems that hardly exist...while spending precious little energy on issues that indisputably have a negative impact on women."

Feminism began to lose its credibility when it demanded men and women are not different in any substantive way; that in order for women to be equal they have to be the same as men--same interests, same ambitions, same outcomes. The whole point was for women to gain respect as women, not to get everyone to respect women because they're just like men.

The end result is that radical feminism has only led to more difficult lives and other forms of abuse of women. The mistreatment of women seems to be on a continuum; and with second-wave feminism, the pendulum has swung too far.

There is vast body of social science data attesting to the importance of both men and women in the preservation of society. It is, ideally, together that the proper preparing of the next generation of noble citizens can occur. The masculinity of the father with his ability to lead, protect and provide gives great strength and physical security to the home. The femininity of the mother as the nurturer, the heart of the home, provides the emotional security that allows the habits of the heart--the civic virtues to be perpetuated. In parenting these equal, but different roles work together to provide balance and security.

Representatives of United Families International are, this very week, in the United Nations negotiating rooms doing all in their power to keep the feminist pendulum from destroying the natural family as the basis of society.

Let's hope (and pray) that they will be successful.
Come on, women! Step up and claim your rights - to be respected for your brains, your heart, your strength! If you've got them (a brain and a strong heart), flaunt them!

Liberal Talk Radio

I was on the freeway today, stuck in traffic, and I got bored. I started surfing the radio dial, looking for something interesting to kill the time. What did I find? A radio station out of Santa Barbara CA, whose tag line was "Progressive radio". As I listened to the host, a Thom Hartmann, I realized that I was listening to a left-wing counterpart of Rush Limbaugh (keeping in mind that Rush has the reputation amongst my Democrat friends as being a rabble-rouser fear-monger who spews shock-talk). Ever interested in having an open (well, mostly open) political mind, I decided to see what our friend Thom had to say. He was complaining about the Tea Party members and the violence that they encourage. He read a blog post written by a Tea Party member (a woman) who made sure to bring her "little friend" (her gun) to Tea Parties, and encouraged like-minded folks to do the same. From that post, our friend Thom concluded that all Tea Party members are gun-toting zealots, "hatriots" (hate+patriot), and the REAL terrorists (as opposed to Al Quada, who killed 2,819 people on 9/11, as well as hundreds of others all over the world?) It brought to mind my experience with Prop. 8, when activists in the GLBT community were threatening all kinds of violence against Mormons. I read some blog posts that were inciting violence against the CHILDREN (!!!) of those who donated money to the Yes on 8 campaign. Some GLBT activists beat an elderly woman at a Prop. 8 rally. They vandalized churches and private homes (mine included). Were they "REAL terrorists"?
Next, our friend Thom demeaned the intelligence of Tea Party members by calling them "Tea bags" and insisting that they don't have a clue about reality. And no compassion for the poor. And all they are is a bunch of money-hungry racists. Who don't use their brains. And "doesn't it just make your head explode? I can't believe these people exist!"
My point is this:
1) You can't judge an entire movement by the words of one or two blog posts.
2) There are liberal radio talk show hosts who are JUST AS inflammatory as ANY conservative host.
3) The liberals are hypocrites who say its ok when their side incites violent protests, but if there is even a rumor of violence from their opposition, they cry out in condemnation as loudly as they can.
Progressive? No, more like REgressive.

It was enlightening to hear what the liberal talking points were. But it just made me mad. So much for trying to be open-minded. I just can't swallow Thom's liberal swill. It just reinforced my commitment to conservatism!

76 Citizens Gather to Urge Congressman Matheson to Vote 'NO'

Concerned Conservative Citizens Coalition (C4) and other interested citizens held a successful rally at Congressman Jim Matheson's St. George office this morning to urge him to vote "NO" on the proposed Healtcare/Student Loan Legislation. The group gathered at his office, heard statements from Speaker David Clark, Senator Dennis Stowell, Representative Bradley Last, Senator Bob Bennett and St. George Mayor Dan McArthur, and marched to the corner of Mall Drive and Red Cliffs Drive where the enthusiastic protestors received a warm reception by drivers along the busy street.

Following the rally the participants filed through Congressman Matheson's Office to sign a petition stating their objection to the Healthcare/Student Loan Bill.

C4 is a group of citizens from New Harmony and Kanarraville, Utah who meet monthly to discuss and take action on legislation and events effecting our constitution, individual rights and limited government." (On a personal note, this group was created by two very savvy senior citizens who decided there was no reason they couldn't make a difference. My parents. And I am very proud of them and the snowball they got rolling!)

Guess what? Their rally was covered by the radio and newspaper. And it worked. Matheson voted NO!!! Didn't keep the bill from passing, but did prove (YET AGAIN!!!) that grassroots efforts really DO make a difference! And I think it should inspire us all to let these politicians, who are supposed to represent the people, know what we the people think of them. Vote them out of office in November!

Mormons now supporting Homosexuality?

Imagine my surprise when I received an email update from OneNewsNow stating that the Mormon Church now supports Gay rights and including a poll regarding the reasons why the Mormon Church would take this new stance. Sadly, the poll only offered choices which were offensive and very negative about the Mormon Church. Just to clarify: The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (commonly known as the Mormon Church) HAS NOT changed their stance on the sanctity of marriage between a man and a woman. They ARE NOT pandering to the LGBT community in an effort to save face and reverse reprisals because of Prop. 8.
Please read this statement from the Church and see for yourself. As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, I am in full agreement with it.

Harvey Milk Day passed, thank you Arnold...

In spite of all the phone calls, emails, and letters to the governator's office, Arnold disappoints once again and passed both bills related to the LGBT agenda. Now, CA recognizes gay marriages performed in other states. And Harvey Milk Day will be celebrated in public schools (May 22). It'll be a cold day in hell before I let my kids be force-fed LGBT propaganda at school. This is nothing short of recruitment to the homosexual lifestyle. I still claim the right to choose what and where my children will be taught, and I can tell you that I will be keeping my kids home on Harvey Milk Day. We won't have any part of celebrating such a scumbag of a man (and I am not calling him that just because he was gay. He was a well-known child molester as well, with gay lovers as young as 16 years old!)
Harvey Milk Day = Vacation Day! Maybe the schools will decide to skip that "special" day when they lose money for absent children. Please join me in boycotting school on May 22!

Never Forget...

Today is the 8th anniversary of 9/11. This was a tragic day in U.S. history - one of the few times since our great nation was created that we were attacked here on our soil - in our backyard. The term "National Security" was created - and it brought feelings of pride and unity to think of protecting our nation from further attack. Our nation was changed forever.

On 9/11/01, I was a young married mother of three small children. I was busily trying to get them out of bed, breakfasted, and ready for school. I was flustered. Then I got a call from my husband, who was stuck in typical Los Angeles traffic. He said, "Turn on the T.V.! You're not going to believe what just happened to the Twin Towers in New York! Watch the news, and can you call me back to update me?" I turned on the T.V. and watched with disbelief as they showed the same footage of panic and running over and over again with commentators trying to keep up with incoming information. When I first started watching, the towers were still standing and only one of them had been hit. Nobody even knew that it was a plane yet. They thought it was some kind of faulty gas line that had exploded. Then, while cameras rolled, the second plane flew into the other tower. I will never forget the shock in the news commentator's voice as the drama played out right in front of him. I couldn't believe that someone would actually fly a plane into a building accidentally (How could they NOT have seen it??). Very quickly after that, they determined that it was a terrorist attack. And then I got really angry. HOW DARE they attack American soil?! Who did they think they were? I didn't even know who "they" were yet, but in that moment, I hated them. Although we lived hundreds of miles away from Ground Zero, we felt the earth shake as those towers came down. I tried to watch the news coverage, but at the same time, keep my kids from getting panicky and scared. Suddenly my focus shifted as I remembered that I was a mom. Should I send the kids to school? For the first time ever, I wondered if they would be safe. I decided that I needed to maintain normalcy, and took them to school. Then I raced back home to watch the news coverage again. And to call all my loved ones to make sure they were ok.
I was glued to the T.V. for days after the event. I identified with those brave New Yorkers. My heart ached for their loss. And I was unified with the entire country in our outrage at this atrocious act of terrorism. We fastened a huge U.S. flag to my son's window and left the light on late into the night to light it up. I wove red, white, and blue ribbons together to make bracelets for us to wear. And we flew flags from our car windows. Everybody did. There were shortages of U.S. flags in all the stores.

Today I am flying a U.S. flag in front of my house in remembrance. I wish I had a flag pole so I could fly it half-mast. My heart is still grieving. And I wonder when exactly it was, in the past eight years, that our national solidarity fell apart. I wish it didn't take a national emergency to make U.S. citizens unite in patriotism and loyalty to our country. In spite of all the contention between right and left, I for one, will never forget.

Harvey Milk Day passed - but Arnold can still veto!

As expected, Harvey Milk Day passed through state legislature. Which would force public schools to celebrate a homosexual activist. Which will take valuable time away from studying core subjects (and isn't that why we send our children to school anyway?), AND glorify Mr. Milk's lifestyle choices. This is a huge victory for LGBT activists, because it will provide an avenue for mainstreaming the gay lifestyle. It is the beginning of LGBT indoctrination of our children. Social politics should NOT be taught in school. The place for that is in the home, at the discretion of the parents. PLEASE contact Governor Schwarzenegger's office to protest this bill and to ask that he veto it!

I did tell you so.
The White House announced today that the federal government will be facing "exploding deficits and mounting debt" (AP News) over the course of the next decade. And that the projected financial situation of the country will be far worse than previously stated.
"Figures released by the White House budget office foresee a cumulative $9 trillion deficit from 2010-2019, $2 trillion more than the administration estimated in May. Moreover, the figures show the public debt doubling by 2019 and reaching three-quarters the size of the entire national economy. Obama economic adviser Christina Romer predicted unemployment could reach 10 percent this year and begin a slow decline next year. Still, she said, the average unemployment will be 9.3 in 2009 and 9.8 percent in 2010. "This recession was simply worse than the information that we and other forecasters had back in last fall and early this winter," Romer said." They tried to tell us last month that they thought the recession was over (Who believed that? Because if you did, I have some real estate to sell you). I think this is just an example of the shortsightedness of Obama's administration. As I have said many times before, they do not look at the long-term consequences of their actions. And they want to pass the new healthcare bill, which will cost millions of dollars, without knowing exactly where that revenue will come from to pay for it. Don't you think it is time for the federal government to take a look at their spending and figure out some way to stop? NOW? We will be paying for Obama's reign for a long long time to come. And not just with money.

Another run at veto'ing Prop. 8

Get busy and start calling CA state Assembly members, they're trying to sneak a veto for Prop. 8 into a healthcare bill!
"Last week, Senator Mark Leno stripped out the contents of SB 54 – dealing with health care coverage — and inserted language that would legalize gay marriages performed in other states and nations prior to the passage of Proposition 8. This proposal is in direct conflict with California’s constitution – as amended by the passage of Proposition 8 – that provides only marriage between a man and a woman will be valid or recognized in California. Further, it goes well beyond the California Supreme Court’s decision that allowed to remain valid a limited number of same-sex marriages performed in California last summer before Proposition 8 passed.
It is simply wrong and undemocratic for liberal gay activists like Senator Mark Leno to attempt to circumvent the decision of voters and rewrite our constitution behind our backs with this sneaky “gut and amend” maneuver. That’s why we’re asking you to take action TODAY and urge the legislature, and if it gets to him, the Governor, to oppose this effort to undermine Proposition 8". (beetleblogger)
In addition to calling the Assembly members, put in a call to Schwarzenegger's office (Phone: 916-445-2841). He ultimately has the power to veto this bill, as it is expected to pass in the state assembly. Let's get to work!

An interesting argument

With all of the unrest in our country today, there is a call amongst conservatives to return to the original constitution. To the same ideals that prompted the Founding Fathers to invent a new form of government and firmly place independence and democracy as a government firmly in place. Of course, I have been pushing for this myself. I am dismayed by the increasing government control over all of us. This latest of Obama's socialistic efforts is the proposed national healthcare system. Socialized medicine! The very thought of this passing gives me chills!

However, the other side has responded to this call to re-focus on the way of life under the Founding Fathers. They say that under George Washington, there was slavery, the right to vote was only extended to white landowners, and women's rights were non-existent. This is all true. (which is why I say it is an interesting argument) They say that the progress made by this country in abolishing slavery, extending the right to vote to all adult citizens, and increasing the rights of women (kind of a farce, which I will have to address in another blog altogether) should and WILL apply to the LGBT community. That we will soon extend equal rights to them and our progeny will someday celebrate the pioneers (gay activists) who pushed this freedom through. And that they will wonder what on earth took so long! I question this argument because I don't think homosexuals fall into the same category as those who cannot choose the color of their skin or their sex. Although there have been many scientific studies and years of research to prove that there is a homosexual gene, this has NEVER BEEN PROVEN. Therefore, same-sex attraction is a choice, and as such, doesn't really qualify for special rights.

Beyond the argument for equal rights for the LGBT community, the current trend toward more government control of businesses, healthcare, national security, the right to bear arms, banking, the economy, etc. is frightening at best. Liberals never consider the long-term consequences of this government control. Anyone who has taken a basic high school level Econ class knows that when you take away free enterprise, the quality of product decreases. There is no motivation to make the product better, because there is not competition. If Liberals paid attention to those nations who employ this socialism, they would see what is in store for us. This is why we conservatives are pushing for a return to the government of 1776. The citizens of early America were all for independence and self-sufficiency, not dependence on a huge and out of control central government.

There are many ways that our society has progressed and improved. No one argues with that, no one wants to take those improvements away. Let us take the good of modern government, and add it to a return to the spirit of the Constitutional Congress, our Founding Fathers, who REALLY knew what they were doing. This nation can be great. But it won't be if Obama gets his way.

233 years ago, American colonists declared independence from the tyranny of an unjust and power-hungry British king. (Thank goodness we made up with England, because I have always loved their history and humor!) The founders of our nation were inspired and visionary in their designing of the governing body of the newly united (but sometimes quarrelsome) collection of colonies. I wonder what those founders would think of America today. I think they would be amazed at the United States' size and worldwide influence. I think they would be pleased that their government (or some form of it) is still in effect. They might be a bit dismayed with the diminishing state's rights and the increasingly powerful central government. I guarantee that they would be shocked at the complete dismissal of God and religion in all aspects of political life. Freedom of Religion was one of the rights they fought for. They would definitely be disgusted with the unfair taxation forced on Americans - that was their biggest issue with England and the main cause of the desire to be independent. America has long been the country where men (and women) are not shackled by a class system, where aristocracy has no influence on man's freedom to make of himself whatever he desires. Immigrants have flocked to our shores in search of this freedom. It's the American Dream!

But today's government doesn't believe in the American Dream. Lawmakers who are supposed to represent the people are lying to get in office and then betraying the very people who voted for them. They spend like there's no tomorrow, on bloated government-controlled programs, the consequences of which will create a people who expect something for nothing and depend on someone else to support them. In short, modern American politics will destroy the independence that was fought for with heartbreaking sacrifice.

Be aware, fellow Americans. Claim our national right and BE INDEPENDENT!

Michael Jackson's death

Am I the only one who isn't very concerned about this? I lost interest in Michael Jackson when he was accused of child molestation and then paid off the victim's family so it would all go away. Then he was accused AGAIN of getting a kid drunk and sleeping in the same bed...sick. That's too coincidental - and I am a strict advocate for the safety of children. Sorry, folks, not a fan of Michael Jackson.
I am sure his family is mourning, though, and I wish them nothing but comfort and peace.

Miss California fired

Miss California, Carrie Prejean, was asked to step down yesterday. The official reason was that Carrie refused to attend, or missed, official Miss California appearances. The real reason is that popular opinion did not agree with Carrie's political views. Here is Carrie's official statement in response to the firing.
I guess we shouldn't be surprised that they fired her, but I find it pathetic. Not that I ever really supported beauty pageants before - but I will definitely be boycotting them in future.

Obama declares June "LGBT Pride Month"

In a singularly underwhelming (and not really surprising) move to pander to LGBT political activists, our President of the United States has designated June as a month to celebrate homosexuality. "In a presidential proclamation on the White House website, Barack Obama has lauded what he calls "the determination and dedication" of the LGBT movement by proclaiming June as "Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Pride Month." The LGBT rights movement has achieved great progress," Obama states in the official proclamation, "but there is more to be done. LGBT youth should feel safe to learn without the fear of harassment, and LGBT families and seniors should be allowed to live their lives with dignity and respect." read article here He barely noticed National Day of Prayer. It seems that President Obama has forgotten that the majority of the people that elected him are not supportive of the LGBT agenda. Obama does not represent the majority of the citizens of this nation, and his policies will destroy what makes our nation great. Democracy, free trade, less governmental control, more freedom to control your own life. These principles are such a basic part of our nation, and every new policy that is enacted by King Obama brings us closer and closer to the kind of life enjoyed by the subjects of King Henry VIII's England. I fear that the far-reaching consequences of Obama's executive decisions will destroy the America I love. I am very sad.

Gay Penguins to teach homosexuality to CA elementary students

The Alameda (a suburb of San Francisco) Unified School District is pushing through a new curriculum that aims to teach Kindergardeners through 5th graders about the GLBT lifestyle in an effort to "discourage bullying on the playground". The proposed curriculum will use a book titled, "And Tango Makes Three", which is about two gay penguins who raise a child together. See article here
In addition, the Alameda school district is saying that parents will not be notified when this will be taught, and therefore will not have the right to exempt their child from this new curriculum. Alameda parents who feel that these issues are better taught at home are outraged and feel that the school district is bullying them into accepting this new curriculum. They feel that their 1st Amendment rights are being violated. I agree. I have always been against GLBT lifestyles being taught in schools. Parents are given the right to exempt their children from Sex Ed - how is this different? If they HAVE to teach it in schools, AT LEAST notify parents ahead of time so that they can choose whether to send their child to school that day. Anything different is taking away Parental Rights, which seems to be a trend these days.
And just a word about "discouraging bullying on the playground". My son, who has Asperger's Syndrome (a form of autism that causes major social disconnection) was bullied for years in public school. I have worked with educators for years, trying to get him the help he needed to avoid the bullies, but in spite of a "zero tolerance" policy, the bullying escalated until they broke my son's finger and gave him a concussion. (I now homeschool him, the best choice I ever made!) My point is, no one is trying to teach about Asperger's in school. No one is forcing children from age 5 - 11 to learn about autism and how exactly a special needs child lives. You don't have to learn about the GLBT lifestyle to learn not to bully. Bullying is about power and control over another person. It is not just aimed at the GLBT community. Bullying is aimed at anyone who is different. Anti-bullying should be taught, NOT the GLBT agenda. I'll be watching our school district, and if they pull out "And Tango Makes Three" - I will be homeschooling ALL my children!

In spite of all the negative press that she received, Carrie didn't back down. Now this is a woman with a backbone! I look forward to seeing her ad campaign.

The Miss California debate: Obscenities more acceptable than conservative views

I don't watch pageants - I have always thought they were demeaning to women, in spite of the whole scholarship spin. But after all the outcry about Miss California's answer to Perez Hilton's question in the recent Miss America pageant, I confess I did watch that short clip on Utube. Miss California (Carrie Prejean, a college student and conservative Christian) was asked how she feels about same-sex marriage, and although she was the front-runner for the crown, her answer so disgusted Perez Hilton, a flamboyantly gay judge, that he gave her a zero, which effectively took away the crown. He gave her a zero score because he didn't like her opinion, not because she lost her poise or answered stupidly, like contestants have done in the past (anyone who has received a low grade in high school on a well-written essay that goes against the teacher's opinion can understand the unfairness of this!). Then he went on to write about Miss California on his website, calling her a "stupid b***h". Miss California is being maligned for expressing her opinion in response to a totally inflammatory question (don't ask it if you can't handle the answer), yet Perez Hilton can call a woman an obscene and demeaning name, and no one is saying one word against him in the media. From this, I can only conclude that in our society today, it is more acceptable to publicly bully a woman than it is for that woman to exercise her 1st Amendment right. There is something fundamentally wrong with that. And the GLBT community is trying to tell us that this is all about equal rights. This treatment of Miss California takes the Women's Movement back a century. Perez Hilton is advocating the removal of a woman's right to speak her mind. And as a woman, and a native, tax-paying, voting Californian, I find that reprehensible.
In addition, Perez Hilton would do well to remember that same sex marriage was banned by a majority of California votes. Which means that Miss California's beliefs represent our state very accurately!
Carrie Prejean, I applaud you! Don't listen to all noise in the media - and be assured that there are many of us who agree with your beliefs and support you!

"Day of Silence" Walkout

The Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network (GLSENN) is hijacking the classroom on April 17th with their "Day of Silence". This is yet another effort by the GLBT community to indoctrinate minors with their agenda, without parental permission. The idea is to interrupt regular classroom activities with silent support of the homosexual lifestyle by both students and teachers. FOR AN ENTIRE DAY. Truly, what is the point of attending school on a day when, if GLSENN gets their way, no teaching or learning will be taking place?
I, along with many other Conservative groups, am advocating a walkout on April 17. However, not all schools participate in this "Day of Silence", so take a few moments and educate yourself first. Here's what to do:

1) Call your schools and ask them directly whether they "permit teachers or students to remain silent in support of the National "Day of Silence" effort. It is important not to ask them if they "sponsor, support, or endorse" a "Day of Silence". They will tell you No. This is usually NOT a school sponsored event - it is most often promoted by students who are members of the campus gay-straight alliance. In this way, the schools neatly side-step any parental notification requirement. Also ask administrators whether they permit teachers to re-write lesson plans to accomodate students who participate in "Day of Silence".

2) Find out what date your schools plan to have "Day of Silence". Some schools may choose to allow students and teachers to participate, but on a different day.

3) Inform district and school administrators of your planned walkout. Money talks. You may be able to influence a change.

We don't have to take this laying down. But if we don't act in defense of parental rights and traditional values, then we will lose them. It is especially offensive to me when the GLBT community start bringing their agenda into public schools - if we can't teach Creationism or advocate prayer in schools, then they shouldn't be able to teach their agenda either. You can help de-politicize the learning environment by calling your child out of school if your child's school allows students to remain silent during instructional time on the "Day of Silence". Join the national effort!

Iowa legalizes Same Sex Marriage

In a move reminiscent of the CA battle over Propositions 22 and 8, the Iowa state Supreme Court voted unanimously to legalize same sex marriage. This move has disappointed and dismayed Iowan conservatives. read article here
Gay rights advocates are overjoyed (naturally) and were quoted as saying, "This shows that the heartland of America is for same sex marriage" and "as goes Iowa, so goes the nation". I contend with these statements. The citizens of Iowa did not legalize same sex marriage. The state supreme court justices did. They do not represent the entire "heartland of America"! And while the second claim may have coincidentally been accurate in U.S. Presidential races, it clearly does not hold true in this case (In fact, same sex marriage supporters said the exact same thing when the CA Supreme Court briefly legalized it! Broken record). I encourage Iowans to put this to the vote, as Californians did.
I assert now, as I did while campaigning for Prop. 8, that the state Supreme Court justices just simply don't have the right to change laws that will govern an entire state full of citizens, without the express (voted) permission of said citizens. America is a democracy, not an oligarchy (in spite of Obama's efforts). Put it to the vote, Iowa!
In addition, I still argue that the legalization of same sex marriage is, in itself, a Pandora's box. There are consequences that are offensive and repugnant to most Americans. Now is NOT the time to give in to one small (albeit loud) section of society. The legalization of same sex marriage is NOT for the greater good. In fact, it will harm families everywhere.

Angie Harmon: A conservative celebrity?

What? A conservative Hollywood-type? I would have said "impossible!" except that I read the article, and it seems pretty legit to me. Headline: Angie Harmon: "I'm not racist because I disagree with the president"
AND she went on to say that she thinks McCain would've done a better job (!!!!) and that she still has tremendous respect for Sarah Palin (EVEN MORE !!!!!) All I can say is: IT'S ABOUT TIME!!! Angie, you go girl! Way to go for speaking your mind. Now let's just hope her career doesn't tank.

Every time I read another article about President Obama seeking to expand the reach of the government, I am alarmed and slightly angered. The answer is NOT to expand the responsibility and therefore the power of government! The more power that we give our central government, the less power we the people have ourselves. The more laws that are enacted to control people's choices, the less freedom we have! We cannot be a free country, and a country controlled by our government too! The USA is founded on principles of free personal choice - freedom of religion, freedom of all men and women to get an education and use it in any profession they choose, freedom of speech, freedom to elect officials, freedom to vote on local initiatives, etc. But over the years, more and more of these freedoms have been regulated down to such a narrow range of choices that we are increasingly having no real choices at all. I was disgusted, along with most of America, when AIG bonused executives with millions of tax-payer's dollars. But I was very uncomfortable when congress passed the law taxing those executives 90% on those bonuses. Did they not think about the precedent they were starting with that little retalitory law? In my mind, I saw the future, and in it, they were using that law to collect millions of dollars from any business, large or small, that had recieved ANY kind of government relief of ANY form (tax refunds, tax deductions, insurance benefits from insurance companies now controlled by the government...you see the direction I am going). This isn't even socialism. It is an oligarchy. And it is swiftly getting out of control.

I call Americans to remember the intentions of our Founding Fathers! This country was meant to be a refuge from unfair taxation (lost that a long time ago) and harassment from a monarch. There have been years of unprecedented freedoms, allowing individuals to control their own futures - to make something of themselves regardless of their birth or station in life. Immigrants of all nationalities have poured into our borders, searching for those amazing opportunities that our freedoms provide. But Americans have become lazy and irresponsible. And now, out of a misguided desire for more and more (for less effort and decreased cost) most Americans are ready and willing to vote for the first smooth-talker who promises them things he/she cannot possibly follow through with. We are throwing our freedoms away. It is going to come back to bite us in the future.

So when you hear/read the words: "Obama seeks expanded power" - call a legislator right away! Email, write, text message, whatever! Let the elected powers that be know that we the people want our freedom back!

CA Supreme Court hears arguments on Prop. 8: Ken Starr is a rock star!

After waiting with baited breath, praying continually, and crossing my fingers all day, I can conclude that things went really well for the Yes on 8 argument before the CA state Supreme Court! So far, things seem to be going in our favor! see article Thanks to all the traditional marriage supporters who were in San Francisco participating in the rally - it made me proud. And how about that Ken Starr? Everything he said was intelligent and well-put. We are lucky to have him on our side.

Republicans vs. Conservatives

Nineteen long years ago, when I officially registered as a United States voter, I proudly chose to check the box next to the word "Republican". I was raised a Christian conservative, and after taking advanced placement history and government classes in High School, and learning ALL ABOUT the 2-party political system, I felt that the Republican party was the party for me. Ronald Reagan was the President of the U.S., we were fighting the Cold War, and I was thrilled to be part of the political party that had control of the White House - and great respect and influence in the world ("Mr. Gorbechev, tear down this wall" - still gives me chills).

Oh, how things have changed.

The Republican party doesn't represent me anymore. Elected representatives on both state and federal level have voted to pass initiatives that I can never support, based on my conservative beliefs. Many seemingly staunch Republicans are calling for the party to be more moderate in order to appeal to a broader voting base. This is such a mistake. The United States already has a political party for liberals and even moderates: the Democrat party. Conservatives are increasingly finding themselves without a party to represent them, and like me, are searching for a direction in which to move. Uber-conservative talk show host Rush Limbaugh has a good grasp on this fact, yet he has been attacked time and again for it (and Rush, I support you. Keep speaking up for conservatives!).
I had an interesting email discussion with my nephew, Jake Lybbert (a young up-and-coming conservative political blogger and eternal student), who was attending CPAC. I was mentioning to him my frustration with the Republican party, and this is what he wrote back to me:

"I understand your frustration. What you wrote in this email is frequently repeated by the conservatives at this conference. Notice that this is CPAC and not R(Republican)PAC. Pretty much everyone blames the Republicans in the House and Senate for their excesses--for their imitation of Democrats on spending and tax issues. Believe me when I say that there is a lot of talk about getting back to first principles--limited government, lower taxes, & the such.
Now, we just need to do what we can to get these types of representatives elected.
Don't donate to the RNC, donate to individual candidates who are committed to the issues important to us--the ones mentioned above and life & family issues. They exist and they need our help. We need to identify them and rally people to their cause via the internet. This, as you know, is the power of the internet."

Thanks, Jake, for giving me a direction! I will be searching for political candidates who represent core Conservative beliefs: Less spending, less government control, traditional family values, and fewer taxes. It is obvious to me that the average politician is probably corrupt. My search is on for men and women of integrity and total love of country above everything else. I just hope they are out there.
And if I have to leave the Republican party to find them, so be it.

U.N. to dictate how U.S. citizens will raise their children?

Democratic California Senator Barbara Boxer is pushing hard for the U.S. ratification of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child - which sounds warm and fuzzy, but is actually "a gross assault on parental rights that could rob the U.S. of sovereignty."

Fox News reports:
"Critics say the treaty, which creates 'the right of the child to freedom of thought, conscience and religion' and outlaws the "arbitrary or unlawful interference with his or her privacy," intrudes on the family and strips parents of the power to raise their children without government interference."

This makes me nervous. After all the government bailouts (which I am totally against), I feel that our government is too big as it is. Frankly, I don't want lawmakers telling me what religion I should or should not be teaching my children! And the really applicable parts of this convention, regarding children in the military, child pornography, and child prostitution, are already (obviously) illegal in the United States. Why do we need to adopt U.N. laws as our own?
And another question - if the U.N. (and certain Democrats) are so anxious to "protect the rights of children" - why don't they extend this and protect the rights of unborn children?
Barbara Boxer is a nut-job anyway. I wouldn't support ANYTHING she pushes!

State Supreme Court to Hear Arguments on Constitutionality of Prop 8!!!

On March 5, the California State Supreme Court will be hearing arguments in response to lawsuits that were filed against Prop. 8 after the election. In addition, they will be reviewing HR5, which was passed by the California State Assembly. The State Supreme Court has the power to strike down Prop. 8. That gives us 9 days to make phone calls and send emails to members of the CA Supreme Court, as well as local legislators, letting them know that they should not over-rule the voice of the majority of CA voters!

Sean Penn's Oscar speech

Like many of my friends, I watched portions of the Academy Awards (I cannot bring myself to watch the whole entire show - it is just so boring). Inevitably, some Hollywood type who just won an award and thinks they are ALL THAT, takes the opportunity to express some political opinion during their acceptance speech. Sean Penn was one of these last night.

"I think that it is a good time for those who voted for the ban against gay marriage to sit and reflect and anticipate their great shame and the shame in their grandchildren’s eyes if they continue that way of support. We’ve got to have equal rights for everyone."

I shouldn't have been surprised - after all, he won for playing Harvey MIlk, for heaven's sake. But I just wanted to answer Sean:

I am not ashamed for defending traditional marriage. I am not ashamed of my opinion that sexual preference does not define a person, OR deserve special rights. It is not on the same playing field as race or color. And same-sex couples ARE different from heterosexual couples, so it makes sense that their union should be called something different. And they still have all the same rights that married heterosexual couples have. It all comes down to the definition of one little word. I do not condone violence of any kind and do not consider my support of traditional marriage as hateful in the slightest. And, wow, are my kids proud of their mom! I am not afraid to look into their eyes, nor will I be ashamed to look into the eyes of my future grandchildren! It takes courage to stand for something, especially in the face of blatant opposition. I hope my kids inherit the moral backbone.
Wish I could say that to his face, but hey, don't you love blogs? Almost as good...

CA Assembly ignores California voters

I was unable to attend the hearings or rally, but fellow DNA member Beetleblogger did, and here is the link to her post on the experience.
I think the one thing that really stood out to me after reading her post was that the opposition was so very well organized and funded. They bussed-in "gay rights" advocates who lobbied loudly and wore identifying buttons. We can do better than we have been doing, folks. Somebody needs to take the lead in this battle and organize something just as visually and emotionally striking. UFI??? AFA??? Come on, this is a call to action!

CA Legislators to vote for repeal of Prop. 8 - Calling a Protest!!!

On Tuesday, February 17th at 10:30 am, The California State Assembly Judiciary Committee and then at 12:30, the Senate Judiciary Committee will hold hearings on Proposition 8. The committees will be considering crafting a joint
resolution encouraging the California State Supreme Court to overturn Prop 8. By issuing the resolution the Assembly will officially express its opposition to Proposition 8, calling for its repeal, and stating that it was an "improper revision" to the state constitution. There are two initiatives up for vote - SR7, and HR5. Read SR7 here. Read HR5 here.
This blatantly flies in the faces of 52% of California voters! The issue of "gay marriage" was voted on TWICE, and both times, "gay marriage" LOST! We cannot let the legislators misrepresent the voice of the people in this way!

What can we do?

1) It's a holiday weekend - hop in your car and make a drive to Sacramento for the hearings!
Tuesday, February 17th at the state capitol in Sacramento. The Assembly hearing will be in room 4202 at 10:30 am. The Senate hearing will be in room 4203 at 12:30pm. By attending you will send a visible signal to the committee members in support of the family.

2) If you can't attend the rally, then pick up your phone and make some calls!

Protest Obama's Asst. Attorney General Nominee

Obama has picked another winner. A pro-gay rights, pro-pornography, pro-abortion, anti-parental rights activist. His name is David Ogden, and Obama has nominated him for second in command in the US. Attorney General's office. Ogden only needs now to be confirmed by the Senate. He has quite a resume - and none of it family friendly!

• As an attorney in private practice, David W. Ogden has filed briefs pushing for gays in the military.
• He has litigated numerous obscenity and pornography cases on behalf of clients like Playboy, Penthouse, the ACLU and the largest distributor of hardcore pornographic movies.

In various cases, he has filed briefs opposing:
• parental notification before a minor’s abortion
• spousal notification before an abortion
• the military’s policy against public homosexuals serving in uniform
• the Children’s Internet Protection Act and the Child Protection and Obscenity Enforcement Act.

Prop. 8 Supporters have no privacy, fear revenge

Let me see if I can relate this timeline correctly.
1) During the Prop. 8 Campaign, the no on 8 folks accused us of intolerance, hatred, and bigotry - just for disagreeing with them.
2) Also during the Campaign, repeated acts of violence and vandalism were enacted on Prop. 8 Supporters (above picture taken of my own bumper sticker after a carload of college-aged girls jumped out of a car and wrote obscene things on my Yes on 8 yard signs and bumper sticker - we got it on surveillance camera).
3) Prop. 8 Campaigners experienced obscene name calling, threats, being pelted with eggs, and obscene hand gestures repeatedly during our campaign efforts.
4) Then, Prop. 8 passes and Prop. 8 Supporters said a collective, "Whew, I'm glad that's over!"
5) Prop. 8 Opponents (sore losers) demonstrate in streets, vandalize churches, push and spit on old ladies, and publish the infamous "Dishoner Roll" - the list of all the yes on 8 donors, along with the call to punish Prop. 8 supporters in any way possible ("probably should leave their kids alone, though.")
6) Lawsuits are filed, places of business boycotted and picketed, Prop. 8 Supporters begin to lose jobs.
7) A map is published which lists all donors AND shows where they live (yup, my house is right there on that map, even though we donated through my husband's business which is located in another town!) A clear invasion of privacy.
8) Now, a judge rules that the complete donor list cannot be kept private. Prop. 8 donors fear even more reprisals.

Now, let us look at this logically. Which group of people is more intolerant? Which group of people is more hateful? Which group of people is more bent on discrimination? Which group is more violent and vindictive? Who is causing the most problems? Same-sex couples still enjoy a legal union, recognized by the state of CA, with all the "rights" that entails. Joint income tax filing, adoptions, medical insurance coverage, etc. Prop. 8 did not take that away. Prop. 8 did not encourage any kind of violence toward the GLBT community. No one is trying to put them in prison for being attracted to members of their own sex. So what are they having such a temper tantrum about?
As an activist American who pays plenty of taxes and stimulates the economy every day, I take issue with the general acceptance of the threats and violence that is perpetrated by the NO on 8 people. It is just wrong for one group of Americans to have their livelihoods threatened and their privacy invaded because they exercised their constitutional right to support an initiative up for vote.
Wrong, immoral, illegal, and yet so accepted in today's society. Who is really ignorant, here? Unfortunately, mainstream media does not clearly point out what is really going on. Well, I'll take that one on, along with my fellow DNA bloggers. Read on, and educate yourselves!

Samuel Jackson weighs in on Mormon support for Prop. 8

Here we go again, another celebrity publicly expressing his opinion of the intelligence of an entire church. He calls Mormons, "Misinformed".
As a dedicated political blogger who scours the internet (researching both conservative AND liberal news/politics sites) for anything of interest, who has a college degree, and who is a member of one of the MOST INFORMED defense of family groups (DNA - see link at right), I beg to differ! Those of us who worked in the trenches on the Prop. 8 campaign were required to be very well informed, because we had to answer to the opposition on every point we made. And we did, with a vengeance! Prop. 8 passed, largely because of how very hard we worked to educate every living voter.
I assert that Hollywood celebrities are the misinformed ones. They don't live in the real world. Their world is made up of paparazzi and award shows. Designer clothes and world travel. Most of them don't even have college educations! Yet, they are quoted on the front page of magazines and newspapers like they own all of us.
Oh, I am so sick of celebrities. Maybe it is because I live in S. CA and see them on a regular basis...truly, folks, they put their shoes on one at a time just like you and me. And when your next door neighbor gets on a soapbox and starts spouting "misinformation", you just roll your eyes and dismiss them. It's time to do the same thing with soapbox-standing, nonsense-spouting celebrities. And frankly, in this economy, they make too much money anyway.

It has been with dismay and disappointment that I have been reading all about Obama's agenda for social policy. In fact, I have had a hard time even writing about it, which, dear readers, must have mystified a few of you. I came upon a column by Matt Barber that expresses my feelings exactly, so I wanted to share it with you.

And can I just say, that inauguration was a farce? The music was pre-recorded, the oath of office was completely botched by both parties involved (and followed up with a make-up swearing-in that didn't even involve the traditional Bible), and Obama's speech was boring and totally unimaginative. What a lousy way to start off this presidency!

What happened to California?

As a California native and current resident (I left for about 8 years for my and my hubby's college educations), I have long enjoyed all the Golden State has to offer. But like this article states, I would like to leave! California is not a family-friendly state to live in.
The public school system is a mess. Lack of funding, increased ESL (English as a Second Language) students force teachers to teach to the lowest common denominator, and now homosexual indoctrination (under the guise of teaching "tolerance") combine to make a public school education in CA a joke for many families. Home schooling is on the rise.
The state economy is also a mess. Which means that already sky-high taxes will be going up again. In spite of falling home prices, young families cannot afford to live here. Property taxes are too high. And much of the state budget is going to pay for illegal immigrants who don't pay taxes but collect welfare like crazy (I had a friend who worked in the county welfare office...you wouldn't believe the stories she told me!).
We could blame it on the Democrats who want to give hand-outs to everyone...or we could blame it on Republicans who won't sign a state budget...I wouldn't even know where to start to fix the mess. And I think it is a shame that such a beautiful place with so much to offer is slowly bleeding to death.

Actress Anne Hathaway to protest Rick Warren at inauguration

In the spirit of encouraging fairness among the Hollywood types with regard to political leanings and activism, I say we boycott Anne Hathaway's new movie "Wedding Wars" to protest her protest against Rick Warren.
According to Foxnews:
"She speaks her mind about issues she feels passionately about.
One of them is Barack Obama—whom she backed—and his choice of Rick Warren as the Obama Inauguration’s clergy of choice.

“I am against it,” Hathaway told me at the after party last night amid champagne toasts to her, to Streep, and to her “Rachel” co-star Rosemarie Dewitt. “My older brother is gay, and so its a family issue for me. My father is coming with me to the Inauguration. At first we discussed not going, and then we thought we’d just turn our backs when he [Warren] speaks. But we didn’t want to be disrespectful. So we’re going to wear ribbons protesting his appearance.”

So she’s outspoken, and polite. That’s a combination you can’t beat."

Do you think they would say the same thing about a conservative activist in Hollywood?

The liberal activist actors think nothing about throwing their opinions around (how many times have they threatened to move out of the country if a conservative Republican was elected President...I say "go! and good riddance to you!") - yet the conservative ones fear for their jobs. So in the spirit of fairness...
The truth is, I would never be able to get my husband to see that chick flick with me anyway.

Sports funding goes, homosexual education funding stays intact

Campbell's/Swanson's Soup Company Comes Out

I received this email from American Family Association this morning:

Campbell's Soup refuses to remain neutral, joins gay activists in the culture war.
According to an article by Erik Sass in the Dec. 24 edition of the Media Daily News, Campbell's Soup will not be neutral in the culture war. The Media Daily News reports that Campbell's will continue to use its advertising dollars to support homosexual publications pushing the homosexual agenda and same-sex marriage. AFA had asked the company to remain neutral in the culture war.
The company sponsored two pages of ads in both the December 2008 and January 2009 issues of The Advocate, the nation’s largest homosexual magazine. The ads featured the company's Swanson line of broth.
The Media Daily News article said the soup company will continue to support the homosexual agenda: "A Campbell spokesman was quoted as saying, 'Our plans for the Swanson brand include additional placements in The Advocate'."
To show their commitment to same-sex marriage, Campbell's featured two "married" lesbians and their son in one of the ads.

NJ rules against religious freedom

Here we go! Many of us saw this coming - and it doesn't bode well for ANY church! A Methodist church in New Jersey refused to rent out a church-owned beach front pavilion to a same-sex couple for their wedding, based, of course, on the fact that their beliefs do not support same sex marriage. Of course, again, they were sued. And lost, in the first round, but it isn't over. Read the article here.
This is classic right of religious freedom against - what? Civil rights??? For a group of people whose claim of "I was born this way - I have no choice" has NEVER been conclusively scientifically proven? (see this blog) What exactly is it that justifies their claim to special rights? We can't just sit back and watch one of our country's most basic freedoms, freedom of religion, be washed away in the tide of baseless claims of intolerance and violation of gay rights.
My hope is that as this matter works its way up the legal ladder, truth and logic will prevail.

Lawyers (and everyone else): Leave your morals at the door!

The State Bar of Arizona is considering whether to require new attorneys to swear they will not let their views on sexual orientation get in the way of providing legal services.

This is already happening in CA. I have a friend who is a lawyer and a judge. I was speaking to his wife during the Prop. 8 campaign, and she said, "You won't believe this, but if Prop. 8 doesn't pass, Roger (named changed to protect the innocent) will have to perform same-sex marriage ceremonies!" When he got the job as a judge, he had to swear not to allow his own moral beliefs to intrude on his ability to judge the law. This includes all judges' duties, performing marriages being just one. I asked my friend what her husband would do, and she said that he would just have to swallow hard and perform the same-sex marriage. Or risk losing his job. There is no option of trading it off to another judge with more liberal views. Either he does something he doesn't believe in, or he gets fired.
This raises the question: what is more acceptable? Compromising the law on moral grounds, or compromising personal morals on legal grounds?

To me, it is totally ridiculous that this question even needs to be asked! This is the direction that our country is heading in - good men and women must make a choice between keeping their jobs, or standing for what they believe is right. Free country? Freedom of speech? Not in the law profession! The miscarriage of justice lies NOT in requiring judges to place rule of law above everything else...it is in requiring them to perform duties that they don't believe in without the option of referring that case to another lawyer. Which brings to mind the case of the infertility doctor whose personal beliefs made her opt out of helping a same sex couple get pregnant. She referred them to another doctor. Seems like a logical thing to do. But she was sued for it and lost. see this article. If the opposition gets their way, here's what you can expect: Leave your moral beliefs at the door when you walk into work every day! Required by law!

The Arizona State Bar will make their decision in January.

Support Prop. 8 Supporters

We have all heard stories about donors to the Yes on 8 Campaign who have been targeted by the LGBT community. Several people have been forced out of jobs, and businesses are suffering. This is unacceptable! We outnumber the opposition, and amazing things happen when we all stand together for a cause. This website provides a list of all contributors of $5,000+ to the Yes on 8 Campaign (the so-called "dishonor Roll"). As well, they have a blog in which they organize and promote retaliatory boycotts, protests, and general harassment of Yes donors. (as an aside, I've read that blog, and the information they use to get their followers frothing at the mouth and ready to attack is grossly inaccurate. Lots of lying going on at californiansagainsthate.com!) The best (and only) way to respond to this group is to support our supporters. Check out that list, find people in your area who donated, and patronize their businesses (and tell your friends)! This is a free country and every citizen has every right to support whatever political cause they believe is just. NO ONE should have to lose their job or have a business fail because they donated money to a cause they believe in! Prop. 8 would never have passed without these donors. I, for one, feel indebted to them! I look forward to crossing the protest line and supporting Prop. 8 businesses.

CA Attorney General Jerry Brown now fighting against Prop. 8

So Jerry Brown filed a legal brief saying that Prop. 8 is unconstitutional. (see article here) Frankly, I am not surprised in the slightest. He has been openly vocal about his personal feelings about Prop. 8 from the beginning. He voted against it. So where is the shock in this? Well, because the state Attorney General's job description is to legally defend the voice of the people.
"Brown's decision to challenge the voter-approved measure and the argument advanced by the attorney general was totally unprecedented. His legal duty as attorney general of the state is to defend initiatives passed by the voters." Seems to me that Jerry Brown isn't doing his job. And he has been making noises about running for CA state Governor (again)? Good luck with that one!

Obama infuriates the gay community

In a surprise move that infuriated the gay community, President-elect Barack Obama chose Rick Warren to give the invocation at his inauguration (read article here). Rick Warren is the Pastor of Saddleback Christian Church in Southern CA, and was openly supportive of Prop. 8. Interesting, that Obama chose a pro-Prop. 8 evangelical to participate in his inauguration...I support the choice, yet I am watching to see how this plays into the whole political game. I hope that Obama and Warren don't cave!

My eyebrows went up when I read about Colin Powell endorsing Barack Obama just weeks before the election. Way up. But I figured that he was voting along race lines and that was probably to be expected. But this interview made the hair on the back of my neck stand up and join my eyebrows. Powell claims that the Republican party lost the election because it didn't listen or appeal to special groups within the American population. That, in order to win any election, Republicans must make more liberal changes to appeal to these smaller groups...wait, that sounds like a Democrat to me! And to quote Rush Limbaugh (who was rudely marginalized by Powell in this interview), "Ronald Reagan would be spinning in his grave!"

I think this is a classic case of mistaken, misunderstood data. Powell is under the impression that America is on the move toward a more liberal society, and that the Republican party has to make corresponding changes or risk being voted into oblivion. But he has not even begun to hear enough from us. He isn't taking into consideration that there is a HUGE group of Americans who support traditional family values - oppose abortion, gay marriage, illegal immigration, and Big Government, who support the right to own and bear arms, support Capitalism, in short, promote conservativism - who have not been very outspoken in past. Most of us have been too busy raising upstanding children and working to support them without turning to government welfare. The time has come to speak up, friends, a lot louder than ever before. We need to remind Washington that we are out here, stimulating the economy, talking to our friends and co-workers, and voting! Traditionally, the Republican party has represented conservative values...and I would hate to see it continue liberalizing itself just to appeal to what the politicians mistakenly think is popular. What party would represent us then?

What started out as a small group of people in S. CA, fighting to get Prop. 8 passed, has turned into a huge grass-roots effort to further family values all over the US. I am proud to say that I was one of the early members of DNA (Digital Network Army), and as such, I spent hours on Facebook, U-tube and various blogs and websites all over the web leaving comments and writing articles and letters to the editor, during the months leading up to Election Day. I went from being a mild-mannered (well, some might protest that...) stay-at-home soccer mom to a political activist, determined to make my voice heard. Well, Prop. 8 passed, but we all know what happened next. The fight isn't over yet. The need for our DNA is greater now than ever before!

Now DNA has started a website and gone global! This is a great step in this effort and I applaud the individuals behind the scenes. This is an effort to get the word out to the religious right, and like-valued lefties too! Very exciting. Please check it out here.

Newsweek trashes Bible in support of Gay Marriage

I got this email and as I did my research, I was appalled. For a group of people who don't believe in God, the Bible, or organized religion, the GLBT community sure is determined to excuse their lifestyle any way they can. They did a pretty pathetic job of it here. Miller is supposed to be a religion writer, but the only time I have ever heard the scriptures being twisted worse was here. She doesn't seem to have much theological knowledge going for her.

"Newsweek magazine has published a lengthy article stating that the Bible supports homosexual marriage. The article was written Lisa Miller, Newsweek religion editor.
Miller's article is one of the most biased and distorted pieces concerning homosexual marriage ever published by any major news organization. The article is much too long for this e-mail.
Dr. Albert Mohler has offered a response to the Newsweek article. I suggest you read Mohler’s article and then Miller's Newsweek article.
Mohler made a significant point in his response: "The national news media are collectively embarrassed by the passage of Proposition 8 in California. Gay rights activists are publicly calling on the mainstream media to offer support for gay marriage, arguing that the media let them down in November. It appears that Newsweek intends to do its part to press for same-sex marriage. Many observers believe that the main obstacle to this agenda is a resolute opposition grounded in Christian conviction. Newsweek clearly intends to reduce that opposition."

If that is the case, then this is just the beginning. Get on those websites and get commenting, friends!

Day Without a Gay

On December 10, 2008 the gay community will take a historic stance against hatred by donating love to a variety of different causes. On December 10, you are encouraged not to call in sick to work. You are encouraged to call in "gay"--and donate your time to service!"

Well, I guess we can be glad that they aren't "reacting with anger, resolve and courage" anymore. All of this, because they want to redefine one little word. Why they insist on calling it "h8" - I STILL don't get it. No one is taking away any of their actual rights! They can still love whomever they choose. They can still (in the state of CA) adopt children, file joint taxes, get insurance coverage for a domestic partner, work, shop, and live in any community they choose. How does defining "marriage" as between a man and a woman change their lives? How does that take any rights away? How does it show hate?

It is like my 4 year old daughter, who didn't get the cookie that she wanted yesterday. She yelled, "that's not fair!" and "you don't love me!" and she sat on the stairs and pouted. But she could have had a different cookie - it just wasn't the exact one she wanted. That is the problem with people who play the "fairness" card - they would only be satisfied if they got exactly what they wanted, and whether it is fair to anyone else matters little or not at all. This is how I see these militant gays. They are like little children who aren't getting what they want (total acceptance and celebration of their lifestyle), so they cry "Unfair!"

Reality: Life isn't fair. You don't always get your way. Deal with it.

Gay Bible set for publication and film

This is taking it too far. Now they are rewriting the Bible and committing blasphemy in the worst way. Check out this link. And then they call it the "Princess Diana Bible"- because Princess Diana did so much good in the world when she was alive...

"There are many different versions of the Bible; I don't see why we can't have one," said Max Mitchell, who directed the science fiction comedy Horror in the Wind, in which an airborne formula invented by two biogeneticists reverses the world's sexual orientation. "I got the idea for the Princess Diana Bible from Horror In The Wind," he added. "After the world becomes gay, religious people create The Princess Diana Bible, which says that gay is right and straight is a sin. Then they burn all the King James Bibles."

There are so many things wrong with this that I am not sure where to start. And I feel for Princess Diana! Wonder how this is legal, for them to use her name in such a horrible way, after her death...

Well, why not...they change the definition of words (gay, queer) and are fighting with all they are worth to change the definition of marriage, we shouldn't be surprised that they are now taking a sacred book of scripture and turning it into an abomination.

Senator Saxby (love that name) Chambliss, Republican of Georgia, just won his bid for US Senate. During his campaign, he had all the Republican bigwigs campaigning for him in hopes of getting another Republican in the Senate...here's what he had to say about this:
“You want to peak on the last day, and we had John McCain, Mike Huckabee, Governor [Mitt] Romney and Rudy Giuliani. But Sarah Palin came in on the last day and man, she was dynamite. We packed the houses everywhere we went.”

Kilmeade asked, “You saw all the heavyweights in the Republican Party show up . . . tell me about Sarah Palin. Will her popularity last?”

“I cannot see it diminishing," the senator answered. “I can’t overstate the impact she had down here. All these folks did a great job, they all allowed us to add momentum, but when she walks in a room, folks just explode. She’s a dynamic lady, a great administrator, and I think she’s got a great future in the Republican Party.”

National Review Online posted this article, which very articulately states the direction the homosexual agenda is heading in their effort to not only overturn Prop. 8, but also to force EVERYONE to not only accept their way of life, but celebrate it. The homosexual activists have gone beyond claiming the need for inclusion, in this case they actually forced a company to form a new service that they weren't built to provide, namely date matching services for same sex couples. This is a Christian company that was targeted by the opposition because it stood for good, wholesome things. It supported long term, stable relationships in order to foster stable marriages and families.

This represents a giant new step for the opposition, it represents a total infringement on the rights of businesses to conduct their business model the way they see fit.

In my place of business, we deal with medical insurance on a daily basis. We work with patients and insurance companies to ensure that the best care possible can be achieved with the most insurance coverage possible. Last month, we had two interesting situations arise.

We had an unmarried heterosexual couple that had been cohabitating for 8 years. This would qualify as a domestic partnership (common law marriage). The female tried to get insurance coverage through the male's insurance, but was repeatedly denied.

The other situation involved a same sex couple who had cohabitated for 1 year, but had registered with the state as a same-sex domestic partnership. One partner was trying to get insurance coverage through the other's insurance. Without question, the partner was accepted and given full coverage.

Who had more rights here? And WHY are they complaining about inequality?

“In last Tuesday’s election, the people of California placed the traditional definition of marriage into the state Constitution. This victory would not have been possible without the support of our 70,000 contributors and over 100,000 dedicated volunteers. It was accomplished with the strong participation of about 80% of California voters, or nearly 14 million people participating in this expression of the People’s will. It is the same process that resulted in the historic election of Barack Obama as President of the United States – with about the same percentage of the national vote as received by Proposition 8 in California.

My husband and I agree that the biggest problem for McCain and Palin was the George W. Bush administration. It is hard to believe that after 8 years of leading the country (6 of which included a republican senate majority), we are now stuck with an even bigger government and a national debt in the trillions. To me, the basics that the republican party stand for are less government and conservative spending. Sarah Palin agrees (see Politico.com):

Palin pointed a finger at the Bush administration for souring the GOP brand, adding that it was “amazing” that the McCain campaign did as well as it did.

“I think the Republican ticket represented too much of the status quo, too much of what had gone on in these last eight years, that Americans were kind of shaking their heads like going, wait a minute, how did we run up a $10 trillion debt in a Republican administration? How have there been blunders with war strategy under a Republican administration?” Palin said.

“If we’re talking change, we want to get far away from what it was that the present administration represented, and that is to a great degree what the Republican Party at the time had been representing. So people desiring change, I think, went as far from the administration that is presently seated as they could. It's amazing that we did as well as we did.”

Well, I'm no prognosticator, but I would be willing to bet that the Obama administration will not diminish the size of our government, in fact, he will increase it. And we all know what to expect with the spending...

So this bodes well for 2012, right?

With all the anti-Mormon protests and threats of violence (a classmate of my daughter's at Moorpark High School called her all kinds of obscene names and threatened to burn our house down) both here in CA and in Salt Lake City, it is good to get some positive reinforcement for all the work we put in to get Prop. 8 passed. It seems like the negative stuff gets all the press...but this blog made me smile! The two men who write Article 6 blog, John and Lowell, are right on! I highly recommend their blog. I hope that MANY of our brothers and sisters in the religious right read that blog too!

Weell, pretty much the only thing I voted for that won was Prop. 8. And unlike these sore losers, I accept the will of the people and will try to make the best with what I've got. Although I am worried about Obama's redistribution of wealth and how that will affect taxes, and his health care plan that seems much more like socialized medicine than anything else; I do respect the office of the President of the United States enough to wish him well and pray for him daily. Frankly, I feel sorry for Obama. He is starting out his term with nothing short of a disaster on his hands. Job rates down, economy a mess, crime increasing, and on the national front, Russia is raising its ugly head once again...and that isn't even taking the Islamic terrorists into consideration. Obama made many promises during his campaign...I hope he will be able to fix SOMETHING, because the natives are restless!

How will the results of this election change my day to day life? Well, I got into the habit of expressing my opinion pretty freely while campaigning for Prop. 8, and I don't see that changing. The world we live in is calling for some voices from the religious right, which is a community that has typically avoided confrontation and ruffling of feathers. I encourage my fellow Evangelical conservatives to continue to speak your minds. We have seen what we can do in the passing of Prop. 8...now is NOT the time to slip back into that world of meekness and silence. Take an active role in your communities - and if you can, get involved in local government or school boards. If we are to protect what we worked so hard for, we will need to be active in defending it daily. (I know, I know...just when you thought it was over...)

Prop. 8 passed!
After hundreds of hours of walking my neighborhood, phone-calling, commenting on YouTube videos, blogging, writing letters to the editors of 6 major newspapers and magazines, sign waving, counting votes at the polling center, displaying and protecting yard signs, fasting, praying, and blood, sweat, and tears....the voters have spoken, and marriage regained it's rightful definition - between a man and a woman only. Frankly, I feel jubilant. I feel justified and vindicated. I feel like a huge weight is off my shoulders and I can finally relax...for awhile.
We were told by Coalition leaders that grass-roots campaigns can effect the vote by a 6% margin. Prop. 8 is passed on a 4% margin. I think we can safely say that our efforts have passed this Proposition. We were told that there has NEVER, in the history of politics, been such a huge grass-roots effort. WE MADE HISTORY! Look, America, at what you can do! And, may I say (yes, a bit smugly, I admit) Look at what HOUSEWIVES can do!
My heartfelt gratitude goes out to the following:
The voters, who put up with all the phone calls, door knocks, and door hangers and voted YES anyway!

I have been doing some research on my own to figure out just what the agenda is for the homosexual community to indoctrinate our kids and force their way of life on society at large. I know there is an agenda because I have been calling the Governator's office multiple times to voice my opinions about various bills that have come across his desk. One of these was the bill to force all public schools to celebrate Harvey Milk Day, in commemoration of the man who started homosexual education activism. The bill called for this day to be run similarly to Martin Luther King Day. Thank goodness, Ahnold vetoed it!
A friend and fellow activist emailed this link to me, and I found it VERY INTERESTING. Same-sex attraction activists will deny that there is an agenda, but if you live in CA, you can clearly see that there is. This document points that out with chilling realism. Not only is Prop. 8 a California battle, but it will be a national battle before you know it.

Via Absentee Ballots, my hubby and I sat down and exercised our right to vote tonight. They make those Absentee Ballots kind of difficult, but I read the instruction card 3 times. Since you have to use a blue or black ball-point pen, and we could only find one in the house (I like those gel pens), we shared a pen and had a together moment...awww. We didn't even argue about anything this time! (In the past, we have cancelled out each other's votes, or in one desperate act of rebellion, I actually hid his ballot from him, and then filled it out myself. We were disagreeing on a local measure regarding land development. It took awhile, but he forgave me!) The most important thing, besides making sure to connect the right arrows, is to sign on the back of the envelope. They won't count it if it isn't signed. Then I put way too much postage on it, and tomorrow I will take it to the post office. Simple as that! It feels so great to vote!

Prop. 8 HAS to pass! I know it has been a long battle so far, and is only getting more difficult due to the opposition stepping up their efforts, but we can't give up yet! Now is the time to get out in your neighborhoods and knock doors. I did this over the weekend and had some really great discussions with people in our neighborhood. There are undecided voters out there that we need to reach, and only by knocking on their doors, will we get uninterrupted access. Plus, it is just fun to meet new people - I have been so pleasantly surprised at the number of quiet supporters we have out there!

The latest No on 8 ads accuse the Yes on 8 campaign of bald-face lies regarding our children and their indoctrination in CA public schools. They even claim that the message is supported by "California Teachers". They say that our claims of parents losing their right to opt out of homosexual education is a "scare tactic". Well, how do they respond to this?

California School Holds 'Gay Day' for Kindergartners

Parents in Hayward, Calif., were shocked to learn their children were being taught to be "allies" of homosexuals, WorldNetDaily reported.

Faith Ringgold School of Art and Science reportedly did not inform parents of its pro-homosexual activities, which included "Coming Out Day," "Ally Week" and Gay and Lesbian History Month.

Pacific Justice Institute attorneys, who are advising the parents, said the school also is planning to host TransAction Gender-Bender Read-Aloud, an event where students will hear adapted tales such as Jane and the Beanstalk.

Brad Dacus, president of Pacific Justice Institute, said this demonstrates why Californians need to vote "Yes" on Proposition 8, which would define marriage as between one man and one woman.
"Do we need further proof that gay activists will target children as early as possible?" he asked. "Opponents of traditional marriage keep telling us that Prop. 8. has nothing to do with education. In reality, they want to push the gay lifestyle on kindergarteners.

Yes, folks, this is a public school. No, parents were NOT informed of these special homosexual events in their kids Kindergarten classes. I feel some lawsuits coming on!

Opposition

Over the past few months, as I have really put myself OUT THERE in defense of traditional marriage and Christian morals, I have been astounded at the amount of maliciousness, hatred, and evil that is directed not only at me personally, but all of Christian conservatives in general. My efforts have always been to educate people about what Prop. 8 really means: NOT an elimination of civil rights for same-sex couples, but simply a final word on the definition of the word "marriage". (see earlier blogs)
When commenting on YouTube videos, my words are always returned with irate ranting, accusations of lies, bigotry and hatred, f-bombs right and left, and personal attacks on my religion and way of life. When commenting on Prop. 8-related articles in major online newspapers, same type of response. When waving Prop. 8 signs on street corners, well, that's when it gets really fun! Hand gestures, more f-bombs, and although I haven't personally been a target of any projectiles, other sign wavers I know have been on the receiving end of rotten eggs, and water bottles.
But one takes the cake.
They somehow got hold of the list of Mormons who donated to the Yes on 8 Campaign, and are now using it to investigate every name on the list. Well, I'm on that list, along with my hometown, zip code, donation amount, and membership status in the LDS Church. Later, in a comment to the post giving instructions on how to do this, one blogger said, "Do anything within legal limits to make these people's lives hell. Probably should leave their kids alone, but get in their faces, in any way you can!"
Why am I not surprised?
Talk about HYPOCRITES!!! For all their talk about love, peace, and tolerance, the opposition has shown their true colors. They are more about hatred, violence and poison than any group I have come up against to date.
My response? BRING IT ON!!! I have nothing to hide, I have faith, and I am not alone.

Don't underestimate the Housewives!

This is in response to an insulting comment on one of my posts on a particular blog (you know who you are), which said, and I quote: "It makes me ill that a bunch of housewives are sitting around in their homes planning attacks on the civil rights of other human beings."

Let me tell you a little something about housewives. We are the women who went to college and got an education, but chose to stay at home and nurture our kids - to provide that gold-standard upbringing for children. Our children are cared for by people who actually love them, yes, you guessed it, housewives. We are the women who volunteer in the classroom. We are the women who organize huge fundraisers for schools, scout troops, and youth groups. We serve in the PTA. We drive our kids to sporting events, music lessons, playdates. We are the women who are there when our kids get hurt or just need to talk. Our priority is the future. Our goal is to make America and the world better by raising children who are well-adjusted, good citizens, who will stand with courage for all that is good. "The hand that rocks the cradle, rules the world". We know this, and accept the challenge readily.

Don't underestimate housewives. When the future of our children is in trouble, then you watch those claws really come out! You think you insulted me by calling me a housewife. Let me tell you, there is no other group of women on earth that I would rather band together with. We are the ones going door to door, gathering support for our causes. We are the ones standing on street corners, waving signs at passing cars. The women registering people to vote? That's us, the housewives. Our votes count just as much as anyone else's does. And we are changing the world one child (or in my case, 4) at a time!

Tuesday, Oct. 21, Protesters are staging a sick-out for public school students. This is a STATEWIDE protest that will hit where it hurts, the money that each school receives per student, per day. Let's go, parents!

Whose Side are Teachers Unions on? Follow the money, folks. This is the scariest part about this campaign!

Yesterday's campaign finance report from the No on Proposition 8 campaign is startling.
The California Teacher's Association donated $1 million to the campaign. This is in addition to the hundreds of thousands of dollars already pumped in to the campaign by the CTA in the last few months.

Opponents of Proposition 8 claim that it's all lies when we warn that your children will be indoctrinated about same-sex marriage and homosexuality. They claim that you'll be able to opt your child out of class when same-sex marriage is taught or discussed. But we know that the judiciary is actively promoting the homosexual agenda by their overturning Proposition 22 this year. And case law shows that parents are losing their rights as well.

Wake up, parents. If you are concerned about what your child will be indoctrinated with at school, you have to vote against the "supposed un-biased teacher's union", and vote FOR Proposition 8!

Why I support Proposition 8:

1) In 2000, 61% of voters in CA voted for an amendment to be passed that defined marriage as being between one man and one woman. Earlier this year, 4 liberal judges overturned the voice of the people because they interpreted that amendment to be unconstitutional. I don't like the voice of the people being overturned and marginalized like that.
2) In 2005, the California Domestic Partnership Law provided all the same rights that traditional married couples have. These rights include:
• Creating and dissolving registered domestic partnerships
• Community property and financial obligations
• Parental rights and responsibilities
• Public benefits
• Health care and end of life issues
(BTW, I got this information off of a gay/lesbian website)
Prop. 8 does not change ANY of these rights. It merely prevents same-sex couples from calling themselves "married". Same-sex couples are different from heterosexual couples in very obvious ways. They can and should have a different title for their relationships than the traditional word "married".
3) There are far-reaching effects of this definition change. Education is the biggest concern for my family. I reserve the right to teach MY children about moral issues MY way. This definition change will not only allow, it will FORCE public educators to teach all children about same-sex relationships, without the restraint of parental consent. I don't want my children to learn about this from people who don't understand our family's morals and beliefs. That kind of education infringes on my rights as a parent.

I do not hate people with same-sex attraction. I recognize them as a very active part of our society. I do not wish to destroy their rights. Prop. 8 DOES NOT take any rights away. It simply preserves the traditional definition of marriage as between man and woman. It allows parents to address the education of their children on this basic issue. It protects the traditional family.

More Prop. 8 Madness

As the weeks wind down in preparation for the Nov. 4 election, our efforts to get Prop. 8 passed are increasing exponentially. Last night Chad and I went to the Moorpark High School Homecoming game and spent about 1 1/2 hours waving "Vote Yes" signs at all the passing cars/pedestrians from the corner of the busiest intersection. We had plans to go to the temple, but when our fearless leaders called us and told me that they had to go to Disneyland last night and wouldn't be able to head up this effort, well, of course we postponed our plans. We had about 22 people show up. Not nearly enough, but workable. We spread out over three different intersections and got busy. I wasn't surprised to get flipped off and yelled at ("No" people are always so very pleasant. And their use of certain very salty cusswords indicates their rudeness and lack of education). In fact, I wouldn't have counted it as a successful evening if we hadn't gotten some good f-bombs. Bring it on!!!

Wright Thinking about Same-Sex Marriage

I do not hate gays and lesbians. I understand that many of them feel that they had no choice in their sexual preferences. I understand that life can be very difficult for someone who is attracted to the same sex. I consider gays and lesbians to be fellow human beings sharing in this life-journey. I feel the same way about gays and lesbians as I do about people who wrestle with drug/alcohol addictions - they were born with some gene that made them more susceptible to certain struggles in life.
However, I do not feel that sexual preference deserves special civil rights. If we start down that road, what is to hold me back from suing for special rights just because I prefer a certain sexual position? I think everyone would agree that would be ridiculous. I do not ask to control the personal intimate choices that people make in the bedroom, but I also do not think those choices merit special civil rights. I will never understand how this personal choice became such a huge POLITICAL issue! But it has, so here we are.
This leads me into the concept of TOLERANCE. If we are to understand the current definition of tolerance, it would be "live and let live, except those who don't support homosexuals - they are bigots and shouldn't have civil rights." To me, tolerance means treating EVERYONE with kindness, not unconditional acceptance. I get to disagree with choices other people make, that's my right. But I don't get to abuse them. And I am not.
Now I am getting to the heart of this issue. You do not find homosexuality in nature. All living beings that desire to reproduce, mate with someone of the opposite sex. The puzzle pieces fit together they way God intended. All living beings live in families. When animals get separated from their family grouping (pride, pack, nest, etc.) then there is a much greater chance of them being picked off by a predator. Animals learn survival skills from parents, siblings, or other relatives. It has been this way for eons of time. It works the same way, but with much greater effectiveness, in human beings. In modern times, there have been countless scientific studies performed that support the claim that children progress in a much healthier way when parents of both sexes are present in their life. In the psychological world, it is well known that if a girl has no strong male figure in her life, she faces a much greater chance of being promiscuous and chancing life-destroying sexually transmitted diseases. Children have a much greater chance of being healthy, happy, and successful when parented by an involved mother and father.
Same-sex marriages take that opportunity away from children. In this modern world, life is hard enough for children who must accept the actions of their parents without any say in it.
As well, the legalization of same-sex marriage has consequences attached. This is not just about giving gays/lesbians the right to have a lovely ceremony and a reception afterward. They can do that now, if they want to. This is about dehumanizing a sacred and historically successful institution. "Party A, do you take Party B to be your lawfully wedded partner..." That's ridiculous. But it has happened in CA already. How can that be good for anyone?
If same-sex marriage is legalized, what will happen to churches, businesses, or individuals who, because of basic moral beliefs, do not want to cater to the homosexual population? Will they be sued into going against their beliefs? Who is being "tolerant" then? Catholic Charities in Boston, Mass. had to close their doors because they were threatened with a lawsuit for not arranging adoptions for same-sex couples. What a shame to have lost an organization that provided so much joy for so many families!
And while we are talking about Massachusetts...the legalization of same-sex marriage in that state has changed family-friendly communities into places of where you can't even visit the beach for fear of having to watch public gay sex.
The law ties the hands of the police - who have tried to arrest the individuals for indecent exposure. Families have had to leave that community completely, to escape the promiscuity that has invaded their beaches.
This is a ripple effect. There are many. Will educators be mandated by law to teach homosexual sex education in the schools? Will churches whose beliefs are opposed to the new law be allowed to preach those teachings?

I respectfully ask you to think about these things as you are considering the issue of same-sex marriage in the United States today.

On Saturday our family joined about 344 (give or take a few) other people to walk in the Moorpark Country Days parade behind the "Yes on Prop.8" sign. We all bought matching shirts and the kids carried balloons, and gave out pamphlets and candy to parade watchers. I have lived in Moorpark for 6 1/2 years, and I have NEVER, not once, attended Moorpark Country Days. But Prop.8 was enough to get me out there, and to top it all off, IT RAINED!!! We live in a desert, and it rains maybe 10-12 days a year here. Why did it have to rain on that one day? And me in my WHITE prop. 8 shirt?! (I tried using an umbrella but kept poking the people around me with it, so I gave up and just got wet) Anyway, I think we made the statement we were trying for. I heard a city official say, "This is GREAT! Can you all come next year too?" We were an impressive sight! Thanks, everyone who joined in - and thanks to Heather and Nathan Roberts for being the organizers behind this big thing. It was an honor to participate.
I was thrilled to see people of all walks of life (no pun intended) marching in support of Prop. 8. HIspanics, whites, all religions, all races. It was inspiring to see how many people there are who value traditional families! I love this country where we can say what we want and march for what we believe in, and then VOTE!!! Thank goodness for America, and go Prop. 8!

Veep Debate

I got so busy trying to get my taxes together last night (we always file an extension so it is due Oct. 15 instead of April 15, I don't know why) that I almost forgot to watch the debate! But I only missed about 25 minutes of it. Chad called and reminded me.
So here's my take:
Sarah Palin was inspiring at the RNC. Then she had those interviews with Gibson and Couric and I started to feel a little less inspired. Last night, Sarah renewed my enthusiasm. Here's are some undebatable facts about her:

1) Yes, Sarah Palin has no experience with the Washington Machine. Dems would say that is a HUGE shortcoming. I think it is refreshing. Those guys in Washington have messed things up pretty badly so far. Everyone knows that Washington politics involves so much special interest game-playing that even really good people who seem to have integrity end up making questionable decisions. Washington Politics corrupt. I, myself, have wished I could walk into the White House and slap some of these idiots around. Sarah Palin obviously isn't part of that corrupt machine and she has the courage to walk in and do some slapping for me. I would much rather elect a candidate who hasn't already been corrupted. Ronald Reagan got elected as a governor. So did Bill Clinton. Is Arkansas bigger/better/somehow more educational than Alaska? No.
Please, Dems, put that one to rest.

2) Yes, Sarah Palin sidestepped some questions. As long as I have been watching political debates, candidates have been sidestepping questions. EVERYONE does that, even Obama. The protocol of a national debate allows this. Doesn't bother me at all.

3) Yes, Sarah Palin is folksy. She is Everyman. She isn't polished. She isn't perfect. Thank goodness! The McCain/Palin campaign has grabbed on to this and given Sarah the go-ahead to make it part of her image. While she did carry it a bit too far for me last night (dawgonnit?), I still don't mind it. And I think the voters of middle America will agree.

4) Yes, Sarah Palin is hot. In the words of my husband (thank you, Chad). How many males will vote for her just for that?
(Ok, that is kind of chauvinistic, but whatev. I am a realist.)

5) Biden kept harping on how the McCain/Palin ticket will just carry on the same policies that the Bush/Cheney administration has, thereby taking the country deeper into an abyss. This argument is nothing but a scare tactic. Both McCain AND Palin have said time and time again that they are in this to reform, reform, reform. They have acknowledged the "blunders" that this administration have committed. History proves that Palin can do this, look what she did in Alaska! Again, dems, please put that one to rest.

I often find myself voting for a candidate because I have confidence in his/her running mate. This time, no exception. I think Sarah Palin kicked it last night. Go, Sarah, Go!

It's My Blog, I'll rant if I want to!

There have been a few times in my adult life when, in frustration, I have just wanted to throw the computer out the window. But then my thrifty genes take over quickly and I realize that is just senseless (expensive) destruction. I am referring to the many times that I have read something on the internet and wanted to add my own opinion to the comments at the end (along with many others, who enjoy freedom of speech and the anonymity that the internet provides). Usually, my opinion opposes the majority of the comments and when I see that, it HUGELY increases my desire to post my own two-cents worth. God made me an opinionated woman, and after 37 years, it has only gotten worse.
One frustrating time was when JK Rowling "outed" Dumbledore. I had the habit of visiting a certain website (I will never advertise for them), mainly right before book 7 was released, because it was fun to read the predictions. After the "outing", I went there to see what the reaction was - ohh, it was just peachy. Every one of the commentors thought it was just wonderful! I thought, "No Way! I know there are people out there like me who are disturbed that Rowling did this." But not one negative comment did I see. I tried multiple times to post, and my comments were deleted as fast as I could type them. It literally seemed like a race! Pretty soon, the staffer who ran the website posted, saying that "due to an unbelievable amount of bigoted and racist comments being posted against Rowling and Dumbledore, they were closing the comments section." My comments were not angry in tone or content. Nor were they "bigoted and racist". I am an adult with some sense of propriety, plus, those really contentious posts don't read well anyway. So, after a bit of research (reading profiles of the staffers on that website), I realized that most of them were gay/lesbian. That explained that. But still VERY frustrating, thinking that there is a whole section of society out there, many of them kids, who read that whole thread and got an entirely different impression than what is reality.

Last Friday, I visited the LA Times website to read a great article about Prop. 8. The poor guy who wrote it took a lambasting in the comment section, and it just annoyed me. I tried, yet again, to post comments, time and time again, and not a single one showed up on the thread. It felt like Dumbledore all over again. It feels alot like censorship. And funny how that is such a terrible thing to liberals, yet they seem to practice it all the time. It is one thing, to get that on a website that is personally owned by a group of book fans. But on a widely read newspaper's website, I expected a higher standard. At least the appearance of being unbiased.

I wrote the following letter to the LA Times:
I am concerned with a glaring problem on your website. After reading a particular editorial (the one about Prop. 8), I saw that all the comments were extremely negative. I tried repeatedly to post a comment in response to the editorial and also in response to the amazingly one-sided and insulting comments. Unfortunately, none of my comments were posted. I am wondering why your webmaster seems to have it out for supporters of Prop. 8. This is unfair and in my opinion, a pathetic miscarriage of free speech, to twist the public opinion and make it seem that there are no supporters of Prop. 8 out in the LA area. I cancelled my subscription to the LA Times because of a decidedly leftist slant. My decision was reinforced today. Rest assured that there are many like me out here, I live and work with them every day. Sad that your newspaper cannot appeal to a broad base of people. Sad for you, that is.

Sarah Palin - you go, girl!

Ok, how big of a geek am I? I was glued to the Republican National Convention last night...first time in my entire life that I have done that. I didn't want to miss Sarah Palin (Rep VP nominee) in her big first speech. Now, before my husband and parents start freaking out, I do believe that a woman needs to see to her home and children first. But we are also encouraged to be involved in our communities and that includes government. With all the hype we've been hearing, I opted to reserve my judgement until I actually saw Palin and heard what she had to say. Conclusion: I would SO be willing to help out with Palin's kids just so she can go to Washington and kick some butt! Besides having a pregnant daughter (that's just sad. I wish the media would leave her alone)...and being able to field-dress a moose (yikes!)...I identify with this woman and I think she could do a world of good if she was elected! Palin is tough, articulate, intelligent, and a heck of alot nicer to look at and listen to than Hillary. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for a conservative hockey(soccer)-mom to have some real national influence, and I just hope she gets the chance.

After years and years of being very opinionated regarding politics and other things of national interest, I have officially stepped into the ring and am about to start throwing Laura-sized punches.

About 8 years ago, 61% of the state of CA voted for marriage to be defined as between man and woman. That meant that same sex marriage was illegal, although gay domestic partners still received all the same rights that married partners get (joint tax filing, legal rights in wills, hospital visitation and decision making in emergencies, etc.) It was a huge victory for those of us interested in protecting the traditional family. 3 months ago, 4 San Francisco based judges decided that this law, that the people voted in, was unconstitutional, and it was abolished. Which now makes it legal to marry a dog, in the state of CA, if you really wanted to...give me a break, the institution of marriage HAS to mean more than this!
In November, there will be a new proposition in response to this miscarriage of justice. Proposition 8 is the same 14 words that CA voters approved before, but this time it's put into our state constitution: "Only marriage between a man and a woman is valid or recognized in CA." Vote "yes" on Prop. 8!!!

Why do I feel strongly enough about this that I am going door-to-door to get the word out? Because in the course of my life, both in University (where I graduated with a Bachelors degree in Human Development) and as a mother, I have read literally hundreds of scientific studies that proved that children have the very best chance in life if they live in a two-parent family, with both sexes present. It just makes sense - yin and yang, balancing each other out. I can see society falling apart, and I am certain that the disintegration of the family unit is a very basic part of this.
In addition, it infuriates me that 4 judges can overturn the will of the people. This issue has already been voted on. The voters have already spoken. We shouldn't have to do this again. Do we live in a democracy or not?

If you are not a CA resident, don't think you're off the hook. If our state is voting on this, yours will follow. Please visit ProtectMarriage.com and educate yourself on this issue. And send money!!! I am. Although I didn't live in CA at the time of the previous vote on this issue, I sent money then. It was my way of taking part in this battle to save traditional family values. The other side has been yelling so loudly for a lot of years on this subject. I think it is about time we started being heard. And I want my kids to see me standing for something!
